Growing Older Implies 'Growth', time to embrace it

Last week I read two books and learnt so much from both and they were 'only fiction'. Easy to dismiss but there were so many take aways in both. One, Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reed helped me see something I'd never really seen before, that we are all just star dust and part of the universe and space is a big place!

Now I had no problem seeing, believing and understanding we are nature and the interconnectedness of everything on Earth but Space? This really grew me to think way bigger and that growth has been transformative.

The book was also a real reminder of how the world has grown in 50 years, inparticular for women and how that would not have been achieved without persevilience and guts by all. An open mind, a growth mindset, a willingness to put yourself out there, fail, do hard things, being courageous, the list goes on......

'Growing' older is what we are supposed to do, grow as we age, so why do we fight it and not see it for the privlidge. Why do we stop choosing to learn, grow, get stronger, get healthier. Why do we choose to stop progressing, evolving, getting left behind or stay stuck?

"We are all living in cages with the door wide open!"

I heard this fantastic quote on a podcast this week and ironically when my blog this week was inspired by the book Atmosphere this is a George Lucas quote.

And how do we escape that cage?..... he has the answer for that too....

"You simply have to put one foot in front of the other and keep going, put blinders on and plow right ahead."

The probability of us being born is widely estimated to be between 1 in 400 trillion and 1 in 400 quadrillion, every one of you reading this is a blooming miracle!

How lucky are we to spend this stardust revolution 'being' a human, living on this special unique place called Earth.

We are chemically and historically tied to the life cycle of stars, which is a major scientific paradym shift that merges astronomy and evolutionary biology and it wasn't too long ago that we thought the world was flat and that women were a procreating tool!

So, lets all embrace growing older in every way we can as the privlidge it is, it's what we are meant to do, grow and age can be synonymous.

And I got all this from the pure joy of reading 'just a fiction book'.

There is no just, it happened through choice, choice to prioritise reading and to have an open mind to learn and grow and see the lessons everywhere and an open heart to love.

As the sign in the library says

"Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body." Richard Steele

THIS WEEKS RECOMMENDATIONS

Well obviously Atmosphere , Alayne read it in 2 days, Cat will do likewise, then I'll return it to the library and if you can't wait grab it from World of Books as reading is always an investment not a cost.

And a couple of great, very different podcasts from people in their late 60s and 70s who are continually choosing to 'grow' as they age. Fab, enlightening listens giving you evidence you can reinvent yourself at any age.

Hope you enjoy them and let me know what you think
